It is a PRIVILEGE to have lab time. If you can't handle the privilege, then we won't come to the lab. Please remember this & demonstrate personal responsibility by not eating, drinking, or acting a fool. Remember that when you are in the hallway, you are to be silent -- if you interrupt another class, there will be consequences.
If you are reading this, that means that you successfully logged on, opened Internet Explorer, & found your way to my page. Good job!
Next, I'd like you to show me your Microsoft Word skills. Please open Microsoft Word by going to the start menu (bottom left corner with the Windows logo in the blue ball. If you don't see Microsoft Word in the quick start menu, find it by going to All Programs > Microsoft Office Word 2010.
Once you have Word open, I'd like you to type the following in the HEADING section of your document:
Your Name
Miss Livezey
English 9
3 February 2015
The above heading is what you should use every time you work on a formal project in the lab. The date is supposed to look like that, I promise :)
Click out of the heading section & type in the regular body section. I'd like you to answer the following questions in complete sentences ...
- Do you like working with computers? Why/why not?
- How much experience do you have working with computers?
- Do you have any favorite websites?
Save your document by going to File > Save & name it YourLastName.YourFirstName.L0203
When you're done, go to the Genius Hour page of my blog & read the instructions. I need you to work on Genius Hour for the rest of the block & make sure that you fill in something for step 4 & 5 on the Genius Hour steps (one thing you learned, one question you still have) in your document. Save your document at the end of the block & print me a copy (File > Print, make sure the printer is Lab212!). I prefer to use Google because Bing is weird. Google Thug Life.
GENIUS HOUR MIGHT FEEL WEIRD. This is because you're not really given a lot of time or freedom to research during school time. Genius Hour is meant to help you practice being inquisitive/curious. You're also practicing good digital citizenship by staying school appropriate & ON TASK! You could search 52 different topics during Genius Hour, but you are responsible for writing down just ONE thing you learned & ONE question you have. If you don't have any questions that popped into your mind as a result of all that research, then you're not digging deep enough! DIG DIG DIG DIG DIG!!!!!!!!!!!

Possible search topics:
- Who is Lebron James & why is everyone saying his name?
- Why are there 8 nights of Hanukkah?
- What's Barack Obama's dog's name?
- What is the healthiest vegetable?
- What country has the most cat owners?
- What happened at the Super Bowl?
- Are there any non-presidents on dollar bills? WHY?
Remember that your effort today determines how often we return to the lab later this semester!
