You are here today for a few specific tasks. They are due by the end of the block because there's a good chance that you won't be here tomorrow.
Complete these items in order:
- Look for data to support your service learning project and strengthen your argument.
- Look for a non-profit organization affiliated with your cause.
- Type up your non-profit proposal.
- Type up your letter to Mr. Miller.
- Type up your Red Raider alum letter.
- Work on your actual PRODUCT that you will present -- a pamphlet, PowerPoint, flyer, or whatever. This should be appropriate for all of your audiences. You will present this to the class!!!!!!!!!!
Guidelines for Proposals:
Non-Profit Organization Proposal
- Catchy title.
- Brief overview of your situation – 2-3 sentences.
- Who needs help? Talk about them and present DATA!
- Why does this matter? Appeal to PATHOS!
- Describe your project:
- What you need
- How it will help
- What is the desired result?
- Thank people for their help.
Mr. Miller Letter Proposal
- Correct letter formatting.
- Academic language!!!!
- BE POLITE.
- Mr. Miller has a history of helping with community organizing. APPEAL TO THAT! (Pathos?)
- Thank him for his help.

Red Raider Alum Proposal
- Correct letter formatting – start with “Dear Red Raider,”
- Academic language!!!!
- BE POLITE.
- Our alumni are waaaaay more diverse than the current student population.
- How can you reach all of our alumni and help them connect to present day Andrews?
- Make a logical appeal (logos!)
- Thank them for their help.
You will be graded on the following (you must turn this all in THURSDAY BY 2:20 PM WHETHER YOU ARE HERE OR STUCK IN A TREE FORT OR WHATEVER! NO EXCEPTIONS!)
- SLP Declaration (PRINT)
- Non-Profit Proposal (PRINT)
- Mr. Miller Proposal (PRINT)
- Red Raider Proposal (PRINT)
- Original Product: PPT, flyer, brochure, etc. (send this to me so I can print)
On Thursday or Friday you will:
- Present your original product to the class
- Grade 5 classmates
You will also receive a grade for:
- Overall work ethic
