Narrative Piece

You will be typing the rough draft of your personal narrative today.  This narrative should be able an important life event that CHANGED you or IMPACTED you in some way.

Make sure you save the file as yourlastname.yourfirstname.livezey.narrative0918 so that it's easy to find in the future.  For example, if my name is Sally Johnson, I'd save it as johnson.sally.livezey.narrative0918
  1. Flip to the back of your packet and review the Narrative Writing Rubric.  Pay close attention to the number 4 (advanced) column.  Circle all of the adjectives in each row under the 4.  These adjectives tell you what you need to do in order to reach this advanced level of writing for the assignment.  This is what you are aiming for; to get a 4 in each category and therefore receive a 100% on this assignment.
  2. After reading the rubric and looking at the adjectives, read the “Understanding Your Goal” handout.  This sheet tells you what you are going to be writing about.  Pay close attention to the first paragraph at the top of the page.
  3. Sit for a few minutes and THINK about what you may want to write about.  In the writing section of your notebook, create a list of events in your life that you may want to write about.
  4. Once you’ve decided on an event, read the “Prewriting” handout in the packet.
  5. After reading the prewriting handout, complete the “Event Map” (graphic organizer).
  6. One you’ve completed the event map, begin layout out your narrative in detail using the “Narrative Outline” handout.
